Q. What is Skype for
Business?
A. Skype for Business (formerly Microsoft Lync) is a communications and
collaboration platform that brings together an experience inspired by Skype
with enterprise-grade security, compliance and control. It offers features
including presence, IM, voice and video calls, and online meetings. Since it is
built right in to Microsoft Office, initiating chats, calls and meetings is an
integrated experience within Office.
Q. How can I access the
technical preview of the Skype for Business client?
A. Current Lync customers in the U.S. can access the Skype for
Business Client Preview in the TechNet Evaluation Center. Customers
outside the U.S. can access it here. The Skype for Business Client
Preview will be available from March 16 – April 30, 2015.

The Skype for Business
technical preview announced today is for the new Skype for Business client
rolling out to current Lync customers starting next month. The Office 16
preview announced today, which also includes Skype for Business, currently
provides an advanced look for IT pros and developers at the next version of
Office for Windows desktop, rolling out in the second half of this year. Lync
customers are encouraged to download the Skype for Business technical preview so they can prepare their
organization for the changes that are only a few weeks away.
